In the 19th century, stagecoaches stopped at Bayfield’s Little Inn to drop off travellers for a good meal, a drink and a comfortable bed. Almost 180 years after it was built, guests still enjoy those amenities, plus everything the 21st century offers.

The latest offering is Soxy’s, a lounge opened in November 2025. The setting is comfy and plush, inviting visitors to settle into a cushy chair with a drink and a couple of friends. Owner Jamie McDougall brought hospitality ideas from around the world to provide a memorable experience.

“My vision was to create something unique for Huron County,” he says. “I wanted something that told a story.” Part of that story is the name – Soxy is McDougall’s beloved horse. “It’s a great way to show my passion and celebrate my horse.”

Jessica Petelle directed the realization of the story, beginning with her observation that the Inn’s middle room would be a perfect location for a lounge. As a filmmaker, she was “thrilled to bring it to life.” She wanted to create a space for overnight guests, day visitors and locals. It’s an inviting space that looks like it existed all along.

“It’s a place that, if you’ve never been, you’d think it’s always been like that. And if you’ve been, you’d think it was an inviting space created for you,” says marketing executive John Rishworth.

In the short time since opening, Soxy’s has garnered accolades from visitors. One described it as: “A place to gather that’s as warm and welcoming as your living room, to have a quiet conversation over cocktails, or turn up the music and mingle with the gang to celebrate life’s events — Soxy’s is a perfect addition to Bayfield’s Little Inn. The decor and ambiance are new yet feel familiar, a new favourite with an old soul!

Specialty cocktails and small plates were developed for the lounge, and world-renowned Scotches are available. The lounge accommodates 30 to 40 people for private events.

Whether a cozy conversation between two or a celebratory party, Soxy’s promises a memorable experience that combines historic charm and modern comfort, continuing the tradition at the Little Inn.
